WORKERS OUT! AT EQUAL MARRIAGE RALLY (27/11/2010)

There’s no doubt that the rally was a significant event on the road to full rights for GLBTI Australians. The speakers included Lisa Newman, CPSU National Vice President. A number of unions were sponsors of the rally including the CFMEU, Teachers’ Federation, Maritime Union of Australia as well as the CPSU.
Before the rally moved off to march through the city and Oxford street to Taylors square,Workers Out! distributed a leaflet the text is shown below.

Greetings,

Workers'Out! are seeking a fixed-term (1 day per week) Organiser to build the groups' contacts with unions in NSW and to raise its profile in the GLBTI community.

Candidates should be able to explain the issues and challenges that members of the GLBTI community face in the workplace.

Further details are:

  • be a union member
  • have experience as a union employee/activist or employee/activist in a community organisation
  • be available to start mid October for a period of 10 weeks

2010 Election outcome: GLBTI community /IR - your thoughts?

Its now 26/8/2010 and we know that we'll end up with either an Gillard or Abbott Government dependant on at least three conservtive leaning and one other harder to pick independant plus one Green.

Just what this means for the GLBTI community and IR and the workplace remain to be seen. But I can't resist digging out the crystal ball for some speculation. Here's two for each outcome; what are yours?

Gillard Government:
