2010 Election outcome: GLBTI community /IR - your thoughts?

Its now 26/8/2010 and we know that we'll end up with either an Gillard or Abbott Government dependant on at least three conservtive leaning and one other harder to pick independant plus one Green.

Just what this means for the GLBTI community and IR and the workplace remain to be seen. But I can't resist digging out the crystal ball for some speculation. Here's two for each outcome; what are yours?

Gillard Government:

1. GLBTI: After 1/7/2011 movement on federal anti-discrimination law, but the community will have to push for it. Gay-marriage? Not likely, but with more psushing and a concience vote an outside chance.

2. IR: Better prospects here. More of the long term benefits of the Fair Work Act will emerge.Support for social and community workers pay case will result in some chipping away in the gender pay gap.

Abbott Government:

1. GLBTI: Nothing positive and as a sop to the "prayer" faction (and its a big one) of the coalition, stepped up ant-GLBTI rhetoric.

2. IR: The ACTU's warnings will come reality. While its unlikely Abbott would risk reintroducing Work Choices (though its not impossible), there will be a steady white-anting of the Fair Work Acts aims, support for ant-union actions and no support for action on closing the gender pay gap.

Not great I know, but we should face reality. Your thoughts please!

Isn't it interesting? The Gillard Labor Government is returned by two of the country independents. With such a narrow majority, I doubt there will be any movement on GLBTI rights.

While Adam Bandt of the Greens probably would support a Gay Marriage Bill, how likely is it that Tony Windsor would? He may already get tarred and feathered for supporting Gillard when he returns to Tamworth --- doubtful that he would even consider backing Gay Marriage.

Rob Oakshott on the other hand, well, I challenge ANYONE to stay awake long enough to find out. Thank heavens I can turn the channel as this guy is SOOOOO boring!
